Ithaca College Members: Pledge to Count the Votes

Ithaca College contingent faculty, members of SEIU Local 200United, published the following pledge today, the day before election day 2020.  Check out their site for a song by member John Burger!

“Cast your whole vote, not a mere strip of paper, but your whole influence.”  — Henry D. Thoreau

“Freedom is not a state, it is an act… the continuous action we all must take.” — John Lewis

Many people and organizations across the US are mobilizing to prevent or reverse a potential election coup. We believe each vote in the US presidential election must be counted. In that spirit, we urge individuals and groups in and around Tompkins County to consider signing Choose Democracy’s pledge:

  1. We will vote.
  2. We will refuse to accept election results until all the votes are counted.
  3. We will nonviolently take to the streets if a coup is attempted.
  4. If we need to, we will shut down this country to protect the integrity of the democratic process.

You can learn more and sign the pledge here. You can also demand that every citizen’s vote be counted by joining the rally sponsored by the Just Democracy Coalition on Saturday, November 7 at 1 PM at the Bernie Milton pavilion on the Ithaca Commons.
