Reee-JECTED!

On Tuesday, April 15, Local 200United members at Hartwick College in Oneonta voted almost unanimously to reject management’s proposed Transfer Agreement.  Hartwick’s proposal would have transferred our members from direct employment with the College and made them employees of Aramark Facilities Services.

Hartwick faces a serious financial crisis and our service and maintenance workers feel College President Richard Detweiler is trying to balance the books on the backs of our members; those who can least afford it.

In 2002, we suffered a substantial layoff, and voted to forego pay raises to help the College weather the financial crisis.   As a measure of their gratitude, Detweiler now wants to get rid of the last remaining workers in the Facilities Department.   The members’ message was clear Tuesday night:  “We’ve suffered enough!”  When the result of the vote were announced the members stood in unison and cheered the results.
