Governor Cuomo Signed into law the “Juvenile Justice Workers Protection Act”

On September 23, 2011 Governor Cuomo signed into law A02129/S04940B, the “Juvenile Justice Workers Protection Act.”  This new law requires “private not-for-profit facilities licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services provide many of the same of similar services to youth as state run facilities.  For this reason, these private facilities should be required to implement the same safety planning programs that is required of state operated facilities.  This will result in a safer and more appropriate environment for both the youth and the employees of these private facilities.”

THE AMERICAN JOBS ACT: Focusing On Our Jobs Emergency

The American people are tired of waiting while a small group of right-wing politicians in Congress holds our country hostage in
the name of tax giveaways for millionaires and corporations. Our jobs emergency is too important to be held up by Washington, D.C., gridlock.

To create more jobs right now, President Obama has unveiled the American Jobs Act, a set of ideas supported by both Democrats and Republicans that Congress must pass right away.  The American Jobs Act will:

  • Put more money in the pockets of working and middle-class Americans.
  • Cut taxes for small businesses to help them hire and grow.
  • Put more people back to work: teachers laid off due to state budget cuts; veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan; first responders; and construction workers rebuilding our roads, bridges and schools.
  • Help the long-term unemployed support their families while they look for work and reform the system to better connect them to real jobs.
  • Create new American jobs without adding a dime to the deficit.

Members of Congress must think about their constituents and make a choice: Kill more jobs while helping corporations and the super rich, or play an active and constructive role in steering our country toward a broadly shared economic recovery.

Call 877-851-2521 to tell Congress to VOTE YES on the American Jobs Act to get our country working again.
