BREWSTER CENTRAL SCHOOLS

On June 17 the final vote was counted and SEIU Local 200United members at the Brewster Central School District accepted a new three-year agreement by a vote of 143 to 31.

The new agreement includes annual wage increases of 4, 3.5, and 3% over the life of the contract with no increase in employee health insurance percentage contributions as a result of the annual general salary increases for the life of the agreement.  In addition to the general salary increases, members received STEP increases ranging from an additional 1 to 4%.  A schedule of increases in the District's contribution for full-time employees enrolled in the dental plan will rise to $535 per year by the end of the new agreement.

Longevity monies will also increase by the following percentages:

  • 10 year-10 month employees-4% in 2004-05, 3.5% in 2005-06, 3% in 2006-07
  • 10 year-12 month employees-Same as above
  • 20 year-10 month employees-Same as above
  • 20 year-12 month employees-Same as above
  • Part-time longevity bonus calculated at an annual rate of $100.00 upon the completion of an employee's tenth (10) year.

Part-timers gained an increase in bereavement days from one  to three.  They also won an increase in sick leave days three to four.

Language that now guarantees the percentage contribution for health insurance paid by a full-time employee in his/her last year of employment prior to retirement was modified to continue throughout retirement.  An incentive plan to discourage the use of sick leave was adopted along with increases in various allowances and reimbursements.

The members of the negotiating committee were Chapter Chair Edward Mullen,  Pat Sotira, Bus Driver Steward Jackie Preininger, Maintenance Steward Frank Meyer, Cafeteria Steward Angela Marvin, Kathy Morelli, Bus Monitor Steward Carol Forschner, Mary Butler, Anthony Chiesa,  Mechanics Steward Nick Savona, and Teacher Aide Stewards Jodi Burns, Nancy Angley, Patti Feeney, and Mary Brennan.

Voting was carried out on Thursday, June 17, 2004.  Congratulations to Local 200United members at Brewster for a solid contract win in a very tough budget year.
