Expanding Opportunities for Education Workers and Students
From kindergarten to college, SEIU members make education work and keep schools running for millions of students across the country.
We are the bus drivers, paraprofessionals, food service workers, nutritionists, social workers, clerical staff, and maintenance workers in elementary, middle, and high schools. And we’re the librarians, custodial workers, clerical staff, and grounds and maintenance workers in colleges and universities.
SEIU members are not only education workers, we’re parents and neighbors committed to quality education that working families and our communities can count on and that public education employees can deliver with pride.
SEIU and education employees are helping to make quality education accessible to every working family by working to:
-
Encourage public officials to use tax dollars to invest in educational opportunities for working families – not to subsidize private schools for the wealthy.
-
Expand after-school programs in all of our public schools to help kids succeed in and out of school.
-
Cultivate new teachers to address the teacher shortage by using career tracks to tap the pool of experienced paraprofessionals who can develop into teachers.
-
Provide state-of-the-art equipment and school buildings where our children can prepare for the 21st Century.
