Proud in Purple at the NYS Democratic Convention

Banner Dem Conv

From May 25 to May 27, we were out in force at the NYS Democratic Convention.  Proudly sporting purple t-shirts stating "Local 200United for Cuomo," members and staff were a major part of the volunteer effort at the convention. From putting signs all over the Hilton campus for Cuomo, to making sure that the convention room was set up and ready to go, our members put in long days and nights to help make the convention a success and support Andrew Cuomo!

Thanks everyone for all of your hard work, it was a great week for SEIU Local 200United!

List Released for Districts Participating in 55/25

See if your district is participating!

For a list of school districts who are participating in the 55/25 early retirement incentive program and their open periods, click here.

The 55/25 bill is officially signed into law! We have won on behalf of school districts and municipalities around the state!

First, we sent hundreds of emails. Then, the bill passed the Assembly, and right before Memorial Day weekend, it passed the Senate. Not one week later, it was signed into law by the Governor's office. This is a great victory for SEIU Local 200United!

What does this mean?
  • First, school districts and municipalities need to opt-in to the program by passing a resolution by July 1, 2010.
  • Employers are then required to give 90 days as a window for people to retire under the program.
  • Members with 25 years of service who are 55 years of age will be eligible to retire without penalty until September 1, 2010.

Unemployment Insurance

We are continuously fighting to get 10-month employees Unemployment Insurance - it's time that Albany takes care of all workers!  There is plenty of legislation and stimulus money available to make the change, but only a few bills measure up and address all of our concerns.

IDA Reform

It's time to stop wasting taxpayer money by giving tax breaks to businesses who don't create jobs.
