Faculty Labor Fairness Coalition

The Faculty-Labor Fairness Coalition (FLFC) was recently formed at Syracuse University as a way for University Faculty and Members from SEIU Local 200United to support each other on broad-reaching issues at the University and beyond. The FLFC is a collaboration of SEIU Local 200United, AAUP, and interested faculty.

In April, the FLFC held an Employee Free Choice Act Forum.  The forum focused on the issues surrounding the Employee Free Choice Act, including its possible passage this year, and how it would affect the local and national economy.

The Employee Free Choice Act, in the words of the FLFC:

Why now? With a new President and Secretary of Labor, U.S. workers are poised to make important gains.

What will the Act accomplish? It will make it easier for workers to unionize, and make retaliation and stonewalling difficult and in many cases illegal.

But isn’t the economy in an economic downturn? True, but in the view of many this makes protections for workers even more essential.
