Keeping our Children Safe and Healthy

In school districts across the state, SEIU Local 200United members are making sure our children are safe.  Whether they are bus drivers who get our children to school, custodians who keep schools clean, food service who keep children fed, or another school worker, our members work hard everyday to make sure our children are taken care of.  We are proud to represent K-12 education workers, and we continually work to make sure they are taken care of as well.

Oftentimes, non-instructional staff within schools go unnoticed and unrecognized; we formed our union to make sure all our voices are heard in the workplace.  Driving a bus full of students every morning and afternoon, keeping a school clean everyday, or feeding hundreds of students daily, is no small feat.  Our members are central to the school districts’ daily operations, and they deserve to be treated like what they truly are: an important asset to the school system.

Brockport Fights Back

School districts across the state are fighting budget cuts, and trying to figure out ways to balance their budgets.  Some schools are finding inventive ways to keep students in the classroom, and some school districts are doing the same old tactics.  Brockport School District is looking to lay off employees this year, and they say their doing it "by the numbers."

"That's just not true," said David Palmer, Business Representative for the Brockport members, "the amount of cuts in our unit are higher than the rest of the school, and we are fighting for fairness."  


Members came out in force for the school board meeting on  March 30.  
Dressed in Purple, their voices rang clear: NUMBERS DON'T LIE: STOP UNEQUAL JOB CUTS!
